Good luck on the purchase and welcome to the best Fiero resource around. I would say that 90% of the members here have learned to do their own work but that may not help you. Most of the time repair shops will not touch a Fiero as the equipment for diagnosing engine problems is long obsolete but still available from select sources on the secondary market. So where do you find mechanics to do the work? I would say that many mechanics advertise on Craigs list looking for extra work. Some are excellent while some may not be. When I pulled my back a few years back I found a mechanic there who helped me out with an alternator change on my Jeep. He charged $50/hour but it only took one hour. It was my only experience farming out work. It was a good one but it helped that I have a fully equipped garage with a lift, air supply and everything necessary to repair a vehicle.
If there is a Fiero club in your area those guys are always pretty helpful. They may steer you in the right direction ------------------
