Fail. But why? (Page 1/2)

I'm too annoyed right now to really get into it, but I'm really stuck trying to understand how this tool was supposed to drive out this bushing:

Is that the bell housing? What are you trying to drive out and why? It often helps to state the Year and Model you are working on

Sorry - I thought the picture was self explanatory...

It looks like it did take the bushing out. When you pull bushings out from a blind hole you grab them from the inside. When you install them you use a tool with a shoulder that pushes them in by the outside edge.

The upper bushing isn't a blind hole. The tool is supposed to drive the bushing downwards, into the bell housing. It didn't... it went right through the bushing, onto the shoulder of the clutch fork. When I smacked it with a hammer it shattered the base of the pivot, ruining the bell housing.

I'm confused.

[EDIT] Oh wait, I think I get it now. The bushing is pushed out of the hole from the outside of the bell housing.

Yes. Out of the bore into the bell housing.

But I don't understand how it could have done that if it passes right through the bushing without making contact.

I bought the tool from Rodney, and expected it to work, and I don't understand why it didn't... Nor do I understand how it was *supposed* to.

Me thinks you ordered or received the wrong one.

From Rodney
"There are 2 variations of this tool. One fits only the Getrag 5 speed, and the other fits both the 85-87 Isuzu 5 speeds and both of the 4 speed Fiero transmissions.
NOTE: If you have the 1988 4 cylinder Isuzu trans you need to order the Getrag clutch arm tool."

Are you sure you got the right one. Looks like there are two versions of that tool.
