No Mess 3800 Swap Oil Filter Change (Page 1/1)

I have a 3800 swap and the first time I changed the oil filter I ended up with a mess with oil all over the cradle and several other places too. I changed the oil and filter today and decided that there has to be a better way. I broke the filter loose and then put a gallon Ziploc freezer bag over the filter and the filter adapter, I held it tightly above the adapter as I unscrewed the filter. The bag would slide on the filter a bit as I unscrewed it but it worked. I kept the bag in place until oil quit dripping from the adapter and all the oil from the adapter and filter stayed inside the bag, nothing on the cradle or anywhere else to clean. The only thing I will do differently next time is use a spring clip on the bag so I don't have to hold it while the oil drains from the adapter.

4.9 Caddy owners do the same thing, but we can do it from the top of the car.

Neat idea. No pun intended. Things like this are helpful to know. Thank you.
