Engine Builder Lost My Oil Pressure Sensor Stand-off (Page 1/1)

I am managing to start working more on my '88 to get it back on the road, but I have run into a glitch or two. I need some help or suggestions on the latest one.

From what I have read and been sent in here, there is a stand off pipe that fits into the threaded hole by the oil filter. The oil pressure sensor supposedly screws into the other end. When my engine was rebuilt apparently that pipe was removed and not re-installed. I thought, no problem, I will just screw the oil pressure sensor into the threaded hole. I ordered a new oil pressure sensor from the Fiero store.

As it turns out, the oil pressure sensor will not fit directly into the threaded hole next to the oil filter. It is much smaller in diameter than the threaded piece on the oil sensor itself.

Does anyone have a photo, or is it possible to take a photo of what this standpipe looks like? I sure would appreciate it. If not I will try to figure out some piping to install it. I am just trying to avoid adding anything that could create the potential for leakage.

As discussed in an earlier thread of yours regarding this missing mounting tube, it appears to have only been used on 2.8's that had A/C (due to the compressor being in the way).

I believe you stated you're not re-installing the A/C compressor. Therefore, unless there's an issue with your wiring harness reaching (and there very well might be), you could install the oil sending unit down by the oil filter, and only need to find a short pipe adapter to connect the sender to the block. If the wiring harness pigtail for the sender is too short to reach down to that area, I suppose you'd have the option of splicing in an extension.

So sure, acquiring an original factory mounting tube would probably be best (due to the wiring harness)... but you do have options.

If you decide that you really want the oil pressure sender tube; if the parts guys can't help you I believe that I have a spare in my garage that I can let you have cheap.

Thanks for the pictures. I have looked at these compared to the pictures I took while tearing down my engine, and I don't show anything at all like this. I am wondering if the previous owner had modified this somehow. Oh well, I will see what my options are. I have already replied to one of the others in here who said he had one in his garage. I will get it from him to be on the safe side. I am going to re-look my photos and see if I missed something.
