3800 Fuel Rail Repair (Page 1/1)

Hi Everyone,

I purchased this particular fuel rail in the past from , I believe, someone on the forum.

The fittings pictured below have begun a small leak. It looks like the yellow plastic has melted and fuel is now seeping past the Oetiker clamp.

Are these just barbed fittings? Can I just place a fuel injector hose clamp? Can anyone point me in the right direction as I am unfamiliar as of now.

I'm seriously interested in making my own set soon as these are not the most sturdy of fuel rails. the injector port on Injector #5 does not angle to meet the injector correctly and is a HUGE pain to install.

No matter what I can't get these yellow fittings to stop leaking. I added an extra fuel injection hose clamp to both ends of the hose and each end still gets wet after priming the pump when the ignition is on.

You are probably using the wrong size fuel injection hose on the hose barbs to connect the metal parts. The flexible F.I. hose should fit tight on the hose barbs. Fuel injection hose is available in 3/8", 5/16" sizes so just chose the size that fits tight. If you are just using neoprene fuel line that won't work at all.

This was made by W-Bodies years ago. They did use the correct hose style.


I'm just about to cut off the crimped fittings and replace the hose section. I'll provide an update tonight.

You know... I would be happy if I could just drive this car again for 5 minutes. That's all I ask.

Looks like the line was threaded for 1/8" NPT and then an adapter to a barb fitting.

I replaced the hose sections and now there is no more fuel leak. I still don't enjoy the idea of having rubber fuel lines so close to the exhaust. I'd like to come up with a more durable system prior to next summer.

Edit: The removed hose is in great shape as well as the fitting. Except for the split where it blew during a fuel prime.

I have no idea why both ends decided to leak.

Not sure that setup would ever stay leak free. Those threads on the tubes look flimsy. I would just buy a stock fuel rail and install that.
