Modified 84 blinker issue (Page 1/1)
RCR JUL 15, 07:53 PM
Hey folks,
Easy one here (ahem)... My turn signals just stay on, both sides. Here's the crux: I've modified the lights so I have single turns and single brake/running lights, similarly to how Bloozeberry described here: tail light harness diagram

I rewired it as described, and I reran the brake line up to the switch. The brakes and running lights work good. Both turns stay on solid, front and rear when the stalk is activated.

I should add I did switch to LEDs, and switched what I believe to be the blinker relay to an LED unit, no difference. I also switched the bulbs back, no difference. I say "believe" because I thought the blinker relay was next to the blue dingy thingy on passenger side, but I just read something referencing it being near the steering column.

I looked at Ogre's references to bulbs and sneak paths, it doesn't seem to apply, bulbs are on, single filament on and no second bulb to create sneak path.

I also read that the front side markers should blink, mine are off. I tried swapping bulbs, but again, no difference.

Any thoughts? Where is the turn signal relay?

Thanx folks...

Bob

The Lord helps those that help themselves, and having the archives and Ogre doesn't hurt.

Going though some old threads, I found Ogre's comments on the location of the actual blinker relay:

New electronic flashers make OE bulbs flash better. I would start replacing flasher can under the dash. (chip on steer brace.) Other can on Passenger side is Hazard flash.

Low and behold there was a yellow can up there. Replaced it with my new LED relay and the incandescent lamps blinked. I swapped in an LED tail light, and it blinks.

So thanx to you fine folks and the search function, I'm good (Still need to see why front sides don't come on, but I'm not working on the front right now).

Peace out...

Bob
