removing a dent from from the bottom of an otherwise worthy tank (Page 1/1)

is there the best way to pull a dent from from the bottom without damaging the plastic? There is a 1/2" dent directly below the strainer on this '84 duke SE. I'd like to remove the plastic and tap the tank flat. Tank guy says heating up tank to solder spot for slide hammer may warp baffle.

leave it. Dented metal may support damage plastic you can't see. plus doesn't affect pump pickup X amount of gas.

If hell bent to pull a dent... Try hot melt glue methods that body shops do.

Thanks. I'd like to fix it but the cure could be worse than the problem. The clearance will be tight. Is the strainer supposed to just such a loose fit on the pump pickup. Seems like it will fall off once it's in the tank.

Something's not right. It's a tight fit and usually you need a screwdriver to pry the metal cup off the pump.

The strainer will go on as far as the two dimples and then it gets too tight to go any further. Is this supposed to be a press on fit? I can get the strainer to seat with the base of the pump pickup if this is how it's done and no damage will occur. The little piece of plastic should be into the strainer to keep it open. Flat side of the strainer towards the float? Thanks
