Ebrake/ Rear Caliper (Page 1/1)

I've looked here on the forum, and I keep seeing that to remove my rear caliper to replace it, I need to detach the ebrake lever, how exactly do I do that?

The cable should be a little loose at rest.... very little... when you pull on the cable button.
You carefully pull and move the cable button out of slot.
Then carefully grab the spring w/ big pliers on level end to push spring in a little to release that.
Alternate, get door spring compressor, open wide as possible, and push as many coils inside and tighten. Leave them sit to reinstall later.
the find a close end wrench or tube to compress 3 locking ears on cable jacket. may need to clean the ears first from dirt under them.

Very likely need new wheel cables at minimum.

What do you mean by the locking ears? I've gotten the cable out of the slot, but it doesn't move at all and the caliper is still held in place by it

The outer sleeve is held in a hole in the bracket on the caliper by spring loaded tabs which have to be compressed. There is a tool for that, Lisle 40750, which you should be able to find at your local auto parts store..

Never needed a special tool

You don't have to detach the lever from the caliper, just the cable. Once the cable is disconnected and the brake hose is disconnected, it is just the two caliper bolts that need to be removed to get the caliper off.

You should be able to compress the piston a little bit with a big C clamp to slide the caliper off the rotor. The Ebrake screw mechanism inside the caliper should not be bottomed out on the piston.
