Headlight delay/not working (Page 1/1)

So I just fixed the gears in the headlight motor because one of them wasn’t coming up at all but now they both seem to struggle to come up. When I press the button the motors start making a knocking noise for about 7 seconds or so and then they both pop up at the same time. If I drive it for a bit and try to turn the headlights on it makes that same knocking noise but they never spin up. Also if I unplug one of them the other one that’s still plugged in pops up a lot quicker. I initially figured it was a battery problem but it’s got a new battery and it’s reading a normal charge.

I struggle a lot with all this electrical stuff so I’m completely stumped on this one. This is also really the first car I’ve had the opportunity to work on so that probably doesn’t help much either.

If anyone has got any ideas I’d love to hear them!

Gen2 Motors are dead/dying.
See Cave Gen2 under lighting section.

Stop fixing/rebuilding them.
Get New Motors from AZ, Cardone thru other stores w/ lifetime warranty.
Or Ebay etc cheaper w/o warranty.

The Gen 2 headlight motors can be successfully rebuilt but how long they will last is the question. The mistake most often made is that when the motor rotor is replaced the brushes can fall out of their holders. Its a tricky process getting those brushes to stay on their holders while the rotor is installed. While I have rebuilt successfully, now I just purchase new motors for $100/pair. They work well and the performance is very good.
