engine surges then dies, CEL comes on then code says engine running lean (Page 1/1)

I bought an inexpensive pump before I dropped the tank not knowing what I'd find. The tank is spotless and the new pump has good flow. The kit wires where too thin so I soldered the OEM heavy gauge wire to new pin connectors and zipd rubber hose over joint. Bought a new tank connector and vent hose. Used a little smaller return hose to see if it helps to boost pressure to remedy lean condition code. The old pump still works fine and is probably a better pump but I want to see how this one performs. The strainer on the old pump was trash and maybe the source of the problem.

Ya gotta know, the question's going to be... what's the fuel pressure?

And usually when an engine revs up just before dying is an indication that the air-fuel mixture has just gone lean. Something's restricting flow TO the throttle body. How long will the engine run before this happens?

I have a fuel pressure gauge and I need to plum it into the line. See earlier posts for more info. I intend to clean the injector as soon as I get the tank back in and get it running. I'm trying to create the same problem with a new pump so I can look for something else if need be. If it solves the issue good for me. Already have new fuel filter and ICV installed. 02 sensor, plugs, and ign module standing by. No one one warning me off the smaller return line is what I was looking for.

Only because I had grass to mow...
Don't do that.
Small return can cause other problems and won't fix engine running Lean.

Restrict Return Flow can even Kill the Pump because correct "waist" fuel is needed to cool and lube that.

Fuel regulator is the Only thing to set system pressure.
I think V6 Reg also needs Manifold Vacuum to keep pressure/flow right at different throttle settings.
Many DIY'er use wrong vac port and the reg doesn't work right.

Use a "Shop" gauge that plugs into V6 Schrader port to read fuel pressure.
Any gauge that needs plumping to work have a nasty habit of failure in hours to months w/o Warning and on a highway often at night. You hope the "leak" smells before it burns the car down.
Often get "free" tools at AZ etc thru Loaner Tools programs.

E2A--> L4 doesn't have a schrader. Some Gauge Sets have a part made for them to add a port next to the filter or replace the filter.
