Headlight motors not stopping (Page 1/1)

So I turn my headlights on and they pop up, but the motors won’t stop spinning. I took the assemblies out to have a look and the motors look fine. I put them back in and now the passenger side works normally, but the driver side pops up and gets stuck and won’t stop spinning. I replace the relays and nothing changed. Could it be the isolator relay?

Gen1 motor(s) not stopping is gears etc in the bottom are broken.
All it takes is 1 to a few teeth strip and motor keep spinning.
And Gen1 system is dumb as can be and motor(s) will stay on forever.

Motor only stops at End of Travel by climbing the gear next to motor shaft as they bind up/down and push one of the limit switches.

It could also be that the flexible gear inserts have disintegrated and this does not allow the limit switch to trip. If the motor gear and brush springs are salvageable in good shape the motor can be rebuilt. The Fiero Store has the repair kit and Rodney Dickman has new motor brushes. This assumes that you have the 84-86 gen 1 headlight motors. I'll agree with theocre that the gen 1 motors are a poor design but I have had success rebuilding them. On a seldom used Fiero I'll say that a rebuild is OK but on a daily driver no way.
Neglected to mention fierofool has been the go to guy for the Gen 1 motor rebuilds. I didn't realize that he was still rebuilding them so that should be an easy solution.
