Original part number for HR6 compressor (Page 1/1)

I have a 1988 Fiero GT with all original engine parts. The A/C compressor failed (perhaps just the clutch failed) and I'm planning to replace it and keep the system running on R-12. I found a new old stock HR6 compressor (GM part# 1131821) and would like to confirm this is the original part number that was used in the 88 GT. Can anyone confirm? Thanks!

I replaced the one on my sons' 88 with DELCO 1131707 2 years ago.....still works great. I am not running R12 though as the system was converted prior to us owning it.
I can double check the service manual when I get home though.

Wellll... Not exactly. It is an HR6 compressor, but it appears to have a multi-ribbed pulley, for a serpentine belt. (The V6 uses a V-belt for the A/C only.)
With that said, it can likely be replaced by a regular V-belt type clutch/pulley assembly. (Ooops. I just reread your original post. You said the clutch is the prime suspect.)

The GM parts book appears to not have the correct part number for an 88 V6 compressor. The part number that it does list is really for a 4 cylinder.
FWIW... Rockauto shows a bunch of GM part numbers, as well as the replacement compressors that they sell.

Sorry... a bunch of words, but not much help.

Edit - 1131707 also appears to be a V5 (i.e. 4 cylinder) compressor.

2nd edit - If it's an HR6 compressor, it's R134 compatible, as well as backwards compatible for R12.
GM switched from the DA6 to the upgraded HR6, possibly late in the 87 model year, but for sure, all 88 V6s got it. (Other than having upgraded internals that are compatible with R134, the compressors are externally identical.)

The air conditioning system is by far the worst documented part of the car in any GM literature.
