Keyless entry system and custom keys (Page 1/1)

So, my family just our hands on an 88-GT. The first thing I did was put in a keyless entry system.

It's not the greatest, however, it has the option to send a positive signal for the door locks without needing a relay, but the trunk still needed one.

It also has the added bonus of being a switch-blade style key like the newer ford f150 keys. I went and had a few cut at home Depot, they were about $5 for each. I used a Dremel to cut them to size and a drill to shape the base of the key fob to allow me to press a white finishing nail into it, using a vice.

I think it turned out alright, in my opinion.

Instead of splicing any wires, I found the factory connector and inserted wires into it, using high strength hot glue to hold them in place. (I'm aware how strange this is, but it has the advantage of not needing to cut ANY WIRES).

This harness can be found behind the gray trim on the driver's side. The tricky part is getting it off of the emergency brake.
For the trunk release, I could not find what wiring harness it went through down stream, so I just decided to run wires from the button itself to a relay that changed the negative signal the keyless entry box gave off from negative to positive, I used female connectors you can find at, basically, any autopart-store in the 12-Volt dorman/help wiring section.

The car locks and unlocks perfectly, the trunk too.

Downside:
1) I couldn't find a place to hook up the horn to sound.
2) I couldn't find a place for the signal lights to blink.

This model was supposed to be push to start as well, but I decided against it, because it was one of the types that needs a key to be cut and stuck into the ignition.... I'm not sure who thought that was a good idea...

Edit....never mind, I didn't read correctly.

When you said "It's not the greatest, however, it has the option to send a positive signal for the door locks without needing a relay, but the trunk still needed one" for some reason I read "the trunk still NEEDS one" I posted an answer of how to wire into the trunk release button. Then I read that you had already done this.

Nice one! I have installed one of these on my son's fiero....mine just came in last week. never thought about getting the cool flip keyfob thing though.
Wiring it up I had the same issue you did.
I only ran one wire to the switch for the trunk. The rest was wired to the passenger side fuse panel.
Like you I had issues with lights and horn. I may revisit that though....I did get the lights hooked up but they blinked so quick I just abandon the effort.
