Straighten bow in GT Spoiler (Page 1/2)
Forrest SEP 27, 10:58 AM
Hey guys. Just curious if any body guys knew a trick to straighten a bowed spoiler. Not sure why but mine is bowed down in the middle....like someone left something heavy sitting on it for a long time. I am thinking maybe just flip it upside down and put some weight in the middle?

Heat must have been a factor in the warping, so I suspect you need heat to modify it now....but it will be tricky.

There hasn't really been a true fix for this issue. Some people have claimed that they flipped it over, put weight in the center, and let it sit in the hot sun. Then when it straightened, they filled the wing with expanding foam. Others have said that nothing will work. Honestly, they come up for sale all the time on Ebay or the Mall on this forum. It may be easier to simply buy a used wing.

A more technical fix would be to cut open the bottom of the wing, apply weight to straighten the wing, and glass in a piece of angled aluminum stock so the wing holds it's shape.

Your wing appears to be depressed...Try talking to it, and see if you can find what it is upset about.......

(Sorry, just had to) I would suggest the heat/weight/upside-down procedure....Filling it with expanding foam may work- but watch out! I filled the back of my boat with some X-30 foam and it was somewhat.....exciting; It expands fast and a lot (Hence the "X-30")

This thread has cursed me with the knowledge that my wing is also bowed

I will never be able to unsee it now...

Just imagine it upside-down. Looks fine now!

Yep gonna try that. Ill prolly wrap it in the next six months though and it wont be hot enough here in good ole Texas to straighten it. It is already cooling off here and this will be the second year in a row we have seen a real fall and a real spring in SE Texas. I think Ill just pull it till its straight and wrap it without the spoiler if I get to the wrap this winter. Its so hot and sticky here....much easier to wrap during the winter as they are pretty mild and allow for better control of the wrap than during the summers here. Its just too darned hot!

Sorry Brother....I knew it when I bought the car....not sure how I will handle it if I can't get the bow out. Fieros have some of the prettiest wings I have seen on a car in forever. They are worth saving if its possible. I have toyed with the idea of some stupid after market wing but in the end they are just not as well formed and suited to the car.

Shove something between the decklid and the spoiler in the middle. Put a few salt bags on either end of the spoiler. Let sit for a few weeks in the summer.
