Are body panels between Fiero trims interchangeable? (Page 1/1)

I'm 19 and have an 85 Fiero in my hands, its got the v6 and I've been thinking about converting it from a notchback to an 86 GT fastback and even toying around with the idea of swapping the front bumper with a formula or SE front end. I don't think I've seen it done before so I was curious if it was even possible.

Your belt moldings have a ribbed design and the later (86 I believe) cars had a round smooth trim. That is the biggest difference to my knowledge.
Virtually all body panels can be interchanged though but that trim that is actually part of each rear and front bumper and cannot be removed.

I've seen this done on several 85s.
The rear clip will bolt on. You can keep your existing bumper covers and lower quarters, thus retaining the grooved beltline molding.
The real b!tch will be the tail light harness. There were no fastbacks from the factory in 85, so the wiring is significantly different. You will need to add some wires, and re-pin some others, I believe.
Also... on the rear corners of the roof, there are a couple of seams that stick up too far, to let the rear clip seat properly. They will need to be hammered or ground down, and the bare metal sealed to prevent rust.

Yes- I converted my 85 SE V6 to 86-88 GT rear and 87-88 Base nose......Just bolted on...The only (Minor) problem is the rub rails don't all match...

Did you have the issue with the metal seams on the roof having to be "massaged"?
If not, I'm surprised. I know of at least two cars that required it. But it may not affect all 85s. Was your car late production for that model year?

I've always liked your car. I've followed it over the years. Nice job!

I did not have any problem except some of the mounting "blocks" had to be re-filled with epoxy because they had cracked epoxy (Hmmm- my "overhead" is cracked....)

I ordered my car in April and took delivery in late May.....

Everything on the car works well....Except the "loose Nut behind the wheel" (I did fix the DIP in the Driver's seat....Had webbing installed across the bottom)

And I like your car also- Especially the paint color.....
