Rough ride (Page 1/1)

Has anyone got a 1987 gt to ride like a decent car ?
I replaced the shocks with kyb shocks, whole new steering system, all rubber bushings with silicone, and stabilizer with the ony one offered.
Any suggestions?

The pre-'88 Fieros can ride just fine.

Are all four cradle mounts in good shape and tight?

What springs are installed? Are they bottoming out?

Maybe it's your tires?

I think your problem is that the car is too stiff now. I have changed only my torque strut mount and torque engine shock, and my 87 gt rides on par with any semi-modern car (minus some fishtailing, need to replace rear subframe mounts to metal to fix that)

edit: maybe not on par but I have never been disappointed by it when I havent driven it in a while.

Also I agree tires are one of the, if not best things for a car, I have ohtsu FP0612 A/S, 205 front and 215 rear and it made a world of difference especially compared to the 205 rear 15 year old winter tires I had before.

The FP0612 tires also seemed a good match for my Mera, from new to a few thousand miles anyway.

I have a different set of tires on 16 inch wheels, when I get time I’ll try them.
Cradle bushings are newer not the original ones.
Thanks for your help

What tires are on your car now?. The Fiero suspension was designed for 60 series tires on 15 inch wheels. Lower profile tires are a rougher ride than the stock tires, and many tires get rougher as they age.

I have 60 series falken tires on 15 inch spider web wheels. The car handles excellent it sticks to the road like a magnet. It just rattled when you hit a rough road.

Most common rattles are exhaust and brake pads, so next time you are going slow on a quiet road with the window down, listen as your wheels hit bumps and see if the rattles go away when you touch the brake pedal "slightly" and if so its the brake pads rattling within the caliper.

Turns out to be the driver’s door and stair tire loose in front.
Thanks everyone!
