Code 70 "Intermittent Throttle Position" on 4.9 (Page 1/1)

Driving home today the car started bogging and wouldn't take throttle...especially under load. Kept pushing in the clutch and feathering the throttle, and she managed to get home. Seemed exactly like a fuel pump going out. In fact, something similar happened a year ago, and it was the fuel pump...which I replaced, and all was well. Nevertheless, while I was limping the car home today I monitored my TPS voltage and MAP voltage while I was driving and didn't see anything out of the ordinary. Checked for codes when I got it into my garage and I have a Code 70.

Fired the car up again in my garage, and the engine ran great. Fuel pressure was fine, TPS voltage and MAP voltage moved smoothly and again seemed normal. Weird. Looked into my Caddy Shop Manual, and the recommended test procedure isn't much and ends quickly in, "Replace TPS With Known Good TPS."

Only thing that was out of the ordinary in the recent past was I was getting slight bit of sail on after lifting the throttle. Barely anything, but I could notice it.

So, whadya think...just replace the TPS?

If the scan tool shows a progressive increase in TPS voltage as the pedal is pressed. The TPS is good. Intermittent could mean a loose or corroded terminals on the connector

Thanks, Dennis. Yeah, smooth, progressive increase in TPS voltage. Will break out the multimeter and start checking wires.
