87 Fiero VIN Sticker Drivers Side Quarter Panel (Page 1/1)
BarnFindInMyBarn NOV 03, 06:19 PM
On an 87 Fiero GT, when the rear deck lid is open, I see a VIN Sticker on the underside of the deck lid, on the passenger side of the quarter panel but NOT on the drivers side of the quarter panel.
Should there be a VIN Sticker on the drivers side quarter panel?
Thanks

It is the same panel on both sides, so only 1 sticker is needed.

All 87 and 88 come with only one vin tag for the rear clip (on the passenger side nearest the trunk rubber)

There should only be one VIN tag on the right side of the rear clip, being that it is all the same panel like fieroguru said. Hope this helps!

"VIN Stickers" are part of...
Code of Federal Regulations * Title 49 - Transportation Subtitle * B - Other Regulations Relating to Transportation * CHAPTER V - NATIONAL HIGHWAY TRAFFIC SAFETY ADMINISTRATION, DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION * PART 541 - FEDERAL MOTOR VEHICLE THEFT PREVENTION STANDARD

§ 541.5 Requirements for passenger motor vehicles. [Cornell LII Copy] list what parts are label. You only need 1 Mark per item. May have other panels like Fiero Rear Clip as is a "Major Part/Panel" but not listed. GM would likely need NHTSA to say this panel needs a "VIN Stickers" or not.

Note: Another section [Cornell LII Copy] covers Part or Full Exemptions that affects many models and why you rarely see this now.
This old guide [NHTSA.gov] for this list 1987 thru 2006 including Fiero (Not Exempt)
web search nhtsa parts marking for later version(s) like 2017 guide [NHTSA.gov]

(Note that some areas in links above say name/logo w/ R after. Means ® as Register TM @ USPTO. )

⚠️ Caution: Spammers claiming can make this and other "DOT Required" labels are often illegal labels in several ways for Fed and/or States at minimum. If they Modify/Change a VECI, RPO list, etc often causes problems. Ignoring they may have problems w/ GM et al for Copyright & Trademark. GM wants Thousands of $ per year or more for a License to make/sell X if they even allow license for a given product.

Replacing Parts: There are legal ways to install replacement parts w/ new or used parts.
Examples:
GM Replacement Panels Have a "VIN Sticker" on them but says "Replacement" [GM] R DOT without a VIN. This stops Insurance and other Fraud claiming car is not wrecked and fixed. (Also saves headaches, time and money to inventory replacement panels.)
If using old parts make sure you have receipt w/ VIN (Even if parts came off 86 and older.) and other doc's if the car has to go thru special inspection after restoring a Total car or any w/ Salvage Tittle in many places. In that cases you're often dealing w/ State Police that might see a fake "VIN sticker..."

Nearly no-one looks for these outside of the above. Maybe Strict Show Judges if shown in a Factory class. But a lot of "people" install "aftermarket" VIN and other Stickers to sell a vehicle @ High $ and hope they get away w/ Fraud, Auto Theft, etc.

(E2A correct text from GM Replacement Panel I have.)
