I did this a long time ago. You only need the 88 V6 U shaped motor mount and 88 rubber mount to install the motor on the cradle. The 85-87 L shaped mount is off like 1 3\4". No need to modify the cradle.

any idea how far off the 88 4 cyl u shape bracket is off? compared to the v6 bracket

You can modify the 85-87 bracket and get it close. Extend it the end and redrill the bolt holes. This will have the side to side placement about 1/2" off from the 88, but the 88 2.8 engine U bracket was a 1 year bracket and can be hard to source.

The 86 V6 exhaust pipe will be close to the 88 mount pad on the cradle, but can be made to work:

The 87/88 chassis only uses 1 heater hose connection at the engine. So you will need to remove and plug the heater core return on the water pump.

Beyond these, more details around the transmissions in both cars and what you want to end up with would be helpful. The 88 4cyl auto cradle has an extra mono trans mount bracket, but is also drilled for the 88 2.8 Auto as well as all manual transmission bracket holes.
