C100 Connector at front 'firewall' (Page 1/1)

Hey all! Quick question...
I was taking out my old Heater Core in my 86 1/2 GT, and I noticed the connector on the C100 for the lights looks like it's been fried or on the verge of failing. All the lights and things that are powered here still work flawlessy.
This is a 'new to me' Fiero, so unsure how long it's been like this, but to me lloks like a problem waiting to happen.

I've been on the lookout for a complete wiring loom from an 87 (the headlights have been upgraded to the 87 model motors etc..) but they are in high demand and short supply. I can just replace all the connectors in that main connection, but I would most likely need a new plug as no doubt this one is melted at some point.

Any ideas on where to get this connector so I can re-pin the wires into a fresh one?

The connecter looks just fine to me.

The goo on the bottom connector should be there, I would like to see more of the goo on the top section.

What he said. It was just GM's way of trying to waterproof a non-waterproof connector. A proper waterproof connector will have round wire cavities with either a matte seal, or individual seals on each wire, while non-waterproof connectors will have square or rectangular cavities. You may still want to unplug it (with the battery disconnected) and use contact cleaner on the mating surfaces of the terminals, as the black substance works its way into the terminals and reduces the quality of the connection.

The 87+ headlight harness is still a good upgrade.

wow! Thanks guys... props to you!

I didn't recall seeing something like this on my old 86, but obviously I wasn't looking as close as I am now...

Will take your advice and clean up the connections, and add some dielectric grease too to the top one.

C100 C500 and others are packed w/ "Bulb grease" to keep out water that won't run when hot or wash out easy.

This often works better then Weather Pack and other "Weather Proof" connectors for vehicles including parts used now.

Can get new "Bulb Grease" at many car part stores.

"Bulb Grease" is about or is Cosmoline often known for Storing Guns and more by the military.

Brake grease or some silicons are used for same.
Like cleaning/fixing grounds bolted/screwed to whatever and coat the parts w/ thin film of either.

All are plastic happy and won't eat the insulation etc.

HOLY SMOKES!!! My question was answered by TheOgre!!!! I feel honoured and humbled!

Thanks for the tips... I do want to go over as many of the electrical connections as I can. If I recall with my old 86 years ago, sometimes the electrical gremlins would rear their ugly head once in awhile...
