85 GT V6 coolant leakage (Page 1/1)

Hi all,

Finally got my Fiero back on the road last week....for 10 minutes. Then major smoke and coolant leaking. Today I was finally able to look it up. I jacked it up and refilled the coolant. Even without the engine running there is major leakage after refilling. I got underneath and the coolant is coming from between the oil pan and the lower pulley. I know there is no coolant there so it is coming from somewhere else and seeping to that point. I am worried I have to drop the engine which I didn't want to do till next spring when restoring the rear suspension and frame. Anyone have any ideas what to do without dropping the engine out?

If your car has been off the road for some time, there's a good chance it's the water pump that's leaking. If so, the engine does not need to be dropped. The following thread was my experience with this issue... Where the heck is this coolant leaking from?

Thanks. picked up a water pump and going to switch that out then try again!

Don't forget to put the clamp in place before you loosen the water pump bolts!

I just went through the whole rear end rebuild on my '88 GT. If you need any help, PM me and I will gladly help you through it. I had my engine rebuilt while I had the whole cradle out. I replaced struts, broken transmission mounts, all bushings, etc. I came up with a very easy way to remove old bushings, too, as these can be a headache to remove. When you get ready to do it, let me know, PM me and I will send you photos of how to do it and any pdf's that I have accumulated. Getting the engine out isn't too bad and having everything in one piece is really nice when it comes to working on it. Merry Xmas...

Make a post on the forum! I'm sure that's something many of us could find useful.

The clamp did not come with a bolt. We here do I get the bolt for that? Is it in the hole the clamp needs to mount to already? Also do you need to remove the alternator bracket to mount the bracket?

This image from the link I gave you earlier should answer both of your questions.
