My 88 leaks from around rear trunk gasket. The gasket looks fresh.I have extended the seal with strips of 1/16 abs strips one inch wide on either side .I then glued the strips in place with alot of black polyseal. This seemed to slow the leak down but the floor still gets wet. What I do now?

Does have luggage rack or wing... Mounting hardware can leak as get loose or casket goes bad.

Trunk metal sides and bottom can rust then leak.

When I converted my 85 SE V6 to the late GT bodywork, the seal is squared off at the ends, and there are plastic pieces that "Finish" the ends...I had to run RTV around the edges of those plastic pieces to seal them.

If that is not where the problem is, take out the carpet, then place paper towels strategically on the floor and shelves, then come back and see where the PT is wet- may help you locate the leaks.

I have an 88 Mera that had a trunk leak. Mine was leaking at the "D" plates too. I used 3M Strip Caulk to seal the plates, no more water in trunk.

I haven't had this problem with my notchbacks, but I found the problem with my 87GT was that leaves and dirt had built up at the ends of the gaskets, blocking the water from draining around to the back of the basket where it can exit. I removed the inner quarter panel trim piece and cleaned it out. There can be a lot of garbage underneath that area.

I tend to be a visual person with visual things. I will be replacing my trunk seal. Can someone put up a picture of this "D" area that I might need to use some RTV or something to help make sure it seals properly? Thanks!
