Amazon delivered an oil pressure sensor I ordered yesterday. I was impressed until I opened the box. The sensor body's the same size, thread looks right, but there's only one male pin. The old one had three male pins. The female connector wired to the harness has three female sockets.
Will this one pin thing work? I'm assuming the gauge is somehow connected to chassis/engine ground.------------------ John W. Tilford

The 88 sensor is not the same as earlier years, and should look like this:

Looks like that, but with one central pin.

Thanks ogre!
On way to NAPA to ask for GM 12555492. I'll take a good look at what they've got before buying. The links you supplied are obviously correct and include "3 terminal" in the descriptions. Will order if NAPA does not have or if too expensive. I did get the special socket tool from Amazon and it fits the original perfectly. Other posts on the Forum reminded me to use a small wrench below the sensor to protect the tube/bracket.
That's what I get for selecting items on Amazon by looking at pictures . . .[This message has been edited by John W. Tilford (edited 12-28-2021).]

You can usually get the Standard brand at O'Rielly and it's much cheaper than NAPA.

New oil pressure sensor/sender installed. Works. No leaks so far.
In order to torque enough to get the old sensor base out and tighten the new sensor down, I took out not only vent grill but also the battery and black plastic "battery box end" that the positive cable goes through. Gave me plenty of room to hold the threaded rectangular base for the sensor with a crescent wrench to counter the remove and install torque. Did not want to mangle the bracket or tube.
To get really sophisticated, I put a two-by-four between the crescent wrench handle and first the firewall to counter removal torque and then against the battery "clamp" (adjustable to match width of battery) to counter install torque. However, the two-by-four was not calibrated. I'll probably have to go back and redo when I get a calibrated two-by-four.
Well, my new year will be a bit better. I hope every Forum member can say the same! Thank you all for the advice.
