reversing sensor (Page 1/1)

Hello, I have noticed that the lights do not come on when I put the gear in reverse. I will start by checking the bulbs, but I do not know where the reversing sensor is located, in case it is the culprit, there is a photo of the sensor, thanks

What years is your fiero and automatic or 5 speeds. There is some difference

It is called the back up light switch. On the stick (manual) that switch is attached to the shifter in the console. On the automatic the switch is on the transmission under the shift lever. The problem could also be a blown fuse, so check that as well.

on the 5 speed getrag used on the v6s, it is on the transmission.

Yes I should have made that clearer 4 vs 5 speed.

You can test the circuit by unplugging the connector and inserting a jumper into the harness with the ignition on. The lights should illuminate. If they do illuminate, remove the switch, attach the harness and use your finger to depress the ball on the bottom of the switch. If the lights don't illuminate, your issue is a bad switch. If they do illuminate, the issue is inside the transmission, but that can be remedied. With the switch removed and using a grinding tool like a Dremel, remove metal from the surface where the gasket sits on the switch. You can get an idea of how much needs to be removed by reinstalling the switch without the gasket before you start grinding. One of our guys did that when a new switch didn't fix it.

This newsetter has an article detailing the process of grinding the switch.

If they don't - the bulbs are bad.
