Just rebuilt my 2.8. Having trouble mating the trans and engine. Any tips? 1986 SE manual 4 speed.

Alignment of the transmission to the engine can be accomplished by using threaded rod cut to about 6" in length or long bolts with the heads cut off. Screw the rod pieces into the engine and slide the transmission in place using the rods as a guide. I believe the thread size was M12 x 1.5.

A question: Did you install the pilot bushing into the rear of the crankshaft? If so, remove it. The Fiero doesn't use it and it won't allow the transmission to mate up. Just a thought. Dennis's method is probably the best and easiest way to install it.
