3800 SC (Blower Porting & Manifold Mods Pt. 2.)

The manifold "hot" coolant passages to the Throttle Body are now plugged and I also gave my supercharger a detailed side by side inspection vs. a new one - to make sure it is worth rebuilding.
I also planned the M90 outlet porting work.

For me, this is excellent therapy during a cold MN winter....

Real nice work and an observation. With a 2.8" pulley you are driving that supercharger pretty hard. No doubt part of the boost you read is just expanded hot air. I would recommend adding an intercooler. It made a BIG difference in the performance on my install.

What fuel are you using?

I feel like once you get into the higher boost levels (that E85 allows w/o an intercooler) that the intercooler becomes a restriction (because of how small the core it) and as such the gains are highly muted. I think Richard Holdener just did a b4- after dyno video of moderate boost with the ZZP intercooler. If I recall correctly, he picked up 20 hp and the temps dropped by a lot. I recall being impressed by the temp drop for sure but not so much in picking up only 20 hp. I am going to go back and watch it again - and actually as most on here know - he has a LOT of pretty recent SC 3800 dyno vids.

These are my thoughts on the subject.
I run 93 octane fuel with a 15 oz bottle of Lucas Octane boost. Supercharger puts out 11 psi of boost with a 3.4" pulley. Was getting KR's without the octane boost but the IC eliminated that. Your point about the possible restriction of the intercooler is well taken. The ZZ Intercooler has an opening about 45% larger than the bottom port of the supercharger. It requires opening up the space on both the supercharger bottom (just a rib being ground away) so that all boost is directed through the larger intercooler opening. The upper manifold also requires a larger opening to match the intercooler opening. IMO with these mods everything is plenty open to provide maximum flow. Will this give more horsepower? I would say so because you are starting out with cooler boost. Surely the E85 provides more cooling but the double effect may be better. My IC lowers the boost temps about 30 *. If I used E85 the charge would certainly be cooler but would it be even cooler still with the IC? I tend to think that it will. As for HP figures, I don't have them but the car sure feels faster. My dash dyno gave me a 12.9 1/4 mile time but I need to take it to the track to verify

From what I took out of Richard's video about the intercooler was that with those cooler temps, you reduce the KR and allows you to put a smaller pulley on and create more boost safely. I wish he would have tested that also since it was a simple change but he never changed pulley sizes for any of his supercharger videos, unfortunately.
