Oil pickup tube and dipstick collision (Page 1/1)

Hey all, I got my oil pan dropped yesterday, and it confirmed my suspicion that the oil pickup did indeed fall off. playing around with it, i noticed that it does not seem to fit in the oil pan without having clearance issues with the oil dipstick. Is this normal? Unless my measurements are off, the pickup tube gets hit by the dipstick unless the tube is as low as it can go(touching the bottom of the pan) and I don't know if it can still suck up enough oil this way.

I figured i would ask on here rather than just assuming and sending it. Couldn't find anything in the archives either, I did look

EDIT:
Nevermind, i put the pan on with the tube swiveled down, so the pan would push it up as far as it needs and the dipstick is just barely touching, everything fits just fine. Sorry about that!

There was a diagram sent with the pump with very specific measurements as to clearances of the pickup to the pan. I may still have that. I will take a look, if you need it. The original pickup has a fairly tight interference fit where it joins the pump. But the recommendation is, once you get this set up the way it should be, you should tack weld the pickup to the pump body. Since your pickup dropped into the pan, I would recommend that you do this. To make sure the pickup was at the proper distance to the pan, since you cannot see it, I put a wad of that caulking/insulation that comes on a roll and is like modeling clay, which you could also use, in the bottom of the pan, bolted the pan into position with a few bolts then pulled it off again to see how much of a depression the pickup had made in the caulking and then made any adjustments that were needed, which luckily for me involved one soft hit with a deadblow mallet. Then I took the unit to my neighbor who is a welder by trade and he tacked the pickup in place. I have had no interference with the dipstick. Now mine is a V6, is yours? If yours is a four-banger, I can't help you...
