SBC build Help (Page 1/1)

Hello I am new to posting but have been reading threads for about a year. I am trying to put a sbc in an 88'. This would be my first engine swap ever and I'm hoping to do it right the first time. Does anyone know of a resource that is as close to a step by step tutorial as possible?

If you use a V8 Archie installation kit, it will come with written instructions and a video. I was a first time swapper back in 2004/5, still going strong.

Yea, not too difficult, especially if your going with a carb and HEI distributor. Im a v8 archie swapper back in the 2006-7 era and still modding it. And Yea, get the Archie Kit, it'll save you headaches instead of trying to pieces things together.

Take the old engine/trans/cradle/suspension out as a whole assembly and take your time swapping in the v8.

Remove the whole wiring harness from the original engine and thin out the un-needed wires and re-install onto the v8 to retain the original gauges in the car.

By the time its ready to go back in it should be as easy as bolting everything back together and plugging the harness back into the firewall.

Its really not difficult.

I'm also an 88 swapper with the 1st one in 1999 and 2nd one from 2015-2021. Yep it took me 6 years this last time. It's been the same car every time.

The swap is pretty simple and I did my 1st one in a few months part time.

I've done it with Tuned Port EFI the first time, Holley EFI on this last one but converted to carb in October 2021

I think there are several of us who'd be glad to help you out.
