Front turn signal / parking light oddity after Gen 2 upgrade (Page 1/1)
Rsvl-Rider FEB 25, 05:35 PM
I recently did a complete Gen 2 headlight upgrade to an 86GT. All the components came from a known donor car and were working perfectly when removed. Everything went well. No cut or spliced wires.

After completion testing I found that the front left parking light did not work but the turn signal light works fine (and all other lights work fine). I have swapped out the bulb (dual filament) with several known good bulbs but still the same thing.

Thinking it must be the connector I tested the contacts with a test light. I get the flashing light when the signal is on. I get the steady light on the other contact when the parking lights are on but still no light from the bulb. So the bulbs are good and the power to the connector is good. What am I missing?

One more thing... the left turn signal indicator light on the dash comes on steady when the headlights are on and the turn signal lever is off.

Any ideas?

I'd say it's a ground.

try new bulb(s)... or add some solder to bottom 2 "pins" of old bulb. The solder can crush over time and not make contact in the socket.

Year of gen2 car? may matter if there's a pin change @ C100. Tho shouldn't be since is a parking filament on 1 bulb
(C500 has a lot of changes between years.)
C100 H9 L turn, H8 R turn, F10 Park. Many docs show F0 but isn't 0 row. Only 88FSM correct that.

pull left socket out. (raise HL bulb to get at it better.)
w/ a good ground...
Park on, only "dim" filament is on.
Turn on, only the "bright" filament will blink.
And front side marker work as cover in my Cave, LED Marker Light first section w/ OE bulb.

Bad ground then both filaments often turn on and/or blink or do nothing depending on switches.
Side Marker often won't work or be very dim vs others.
Often w/ front park/turn also confuse the dash turn light. See my Cave, Sneak Path

If seems to work like good ground above but park filament won't light...
The brown wire is shared on 4 front bulbs. Install L side park/turn bulb and Pull R side park/turn bulb and see if markers stop blinking.
If stops then L side socket or wire has problems.

I'd go with Steve's bet on the grounds; I've had screwy things happen with bad grounds and phantom dashboard blinker lights on the Fiero. Check the connectors and also check for corrosion. Also make sure the main ground screws are secured tight
