NO LONGER A FIERO OWNER (Page 1/2)

Hello,,,

I sold my '88 today for $7000. It has been a real trip learning about the car and its unique design. But most of all, I just want to thank you all for letting me pick your brains while I was in the process of the rebuild. It was worth it. Once I got the engine done and mostly broken in, and the whole tail end rebuilt with new bushings, struts, etc, it was a great car to drive. I couldn't have done it without you all. THANKS!!!! I was glad to be able to help here and there, especially with my post on the easy way to pull old bushings out of the rear end and replacing them in about a 1/3 of the time that it usually takes. The same method could be used for any bushings to include control arm, etc.

I will be checking in every so often to see what is going on. I am looking at either doing a motorcycle (again) or an older pre-smog V8. If anyone has some good leads on something like this, please let me know. You can email me at

Did you fix up a Fiero just to sell it or you had other reasons not to keep it?

Just curious! But very thankful that you helped saved a Fiero to get it back on the road and not to a junkyard.

I've been on this forum a long time and have seen a whole bunch of signed up members here come and go. I would say that this is because part of the fun of owning one is rebuilding/restoring/customizing and driving a Fiero. People have fun with the car then go onto something else just as you have.This is a common occurrence in any hobby. Today the remaining diehards in the Fiero hobby are IMO middle age and senior people but it lives on. Good luck with your future endeavors. It was nice having you with us.

Everything you said is spot on sir! I got my first fiero when I was 20 (that was a WHILE ago...). I think I nicked my knuckle the first time I tried to get the rear calipers to go back in on a brake job and a little fiero dna got into my system. As such, I don't seem to be abe to shake Fiero-itis. In all seriousness, these cars do have a way of infecting people - probably because they are so unique and cool - compared to all the mostly JUNK of the 80's. So much fun to modify and you dont have to worry about rust bubbling through on the exterior. Yes, you do have to check on the space frame once in a while. If fuel gets too crazy, maybe I will do an NA ecotec.... Who knows!

My wife and I are 72. She has had a hip and knee replacement and had gotten to the point where she could no longer get into and out of the car. My main reason in buying it was that I had never done a mid-engine car restoration, and I got the car for a song and a dance. I needed something therapeutical to help me through rough spot in my life, so the Fiero provided that, although at times it was frustrating (LOL). It had just become impractical for us to own it. My next project will be a motorcycle or a RWD, pre-smog, big block something or other, if I have my way.

I just wanted to thank everyone in here for helping me get this great car back on the road. When I got done with it, it was like driving a 170 hp gocart. It was fun.

Yeah, I know. Sorry. Take care and keep the Fieros back on the road. When I was restoring the car, I ended up with a bunch of parts, etc. A guy about a block away from me owns an '87 2M6, so I took a large tub of parts, to include exhaust manifolds and sold it to him. He was happy to get it. So in a sense, I am helping to keep Fieros on the road...

Part of the good time I had was with you guys in this forum. I will be checking in once in a while to say hello and help out if I can. My next project will be older, pre-smog American made metal, if I have my way. I am already looking...
