After chewing up the cam gear, trying to replace with new.The timing marks are off,how to get in line? Does the crank turn or the cam? Does number 1 spark plug have to be top dead center? What is the proper proceedure? Thanks in advance 1984 2.5 4 cylinder

Rotate either or both slowly until mark meet and done.
