Parking brake stuck in equalizer (Page 1/1)
Additivewalnut MAR 19, 05:35 PM
The parking brake is literally the only thing stopping me from dropping the 2.8 out, I got both springs and cables out of the calipers, but the brake cable coming from inside the car is stuck in the bracket with the passenger side cable. Neither one will come loose and I've tried PB blaster, I tool a torch to it, nothing. Im this close to just cutting the damn brake cable off and dealing with the consequences later

The part holding 2 ends or 1 w/ the nut?

Nut is very hard to move on purpose.

Joint...
Grab center and 1 cable w/ visecrips with a little slack space then squeeze the pliers together.
"needle nose" for center is best.

Note the metal joint has "Locking ears" that may need help to release the cable end.

But...
You used a torch then part is junk.
Likely the cables too because heating often screws w/ metal hardness and cause rust.

Ogre already posted an effective means of taking the link apart, if that's what you need to do, but when I was replacing my equalizer about a month ago I decided not to fight separating the link and bought this

Lisle 44220 Emergency Brake Cable Release Tool

My link didn't seem to be too corroded, but this tool separated it for me in less than 5 seconds. With the link free, maybe it would easier to separate the rest.

GM uses this: (Bottom one)

Dorman Parking Brake Cable Connector 21126
Can see the small "Locking Ears" that often fight you.

Dirt, rust, etc make the ear a large pain. Can be make a so bend in more too. So may need small screw driver etc on the ears to tweak/clean them.

Tool above is good but many have visegrips and similar and works easy too and don't have to get a tool you rarely use.
Shown in my Cave, Rear Brakes

But again...
Heat Often damage this part and cable end(s) too.
Does same for equalizer w/ the nut to adjust the P-brake...

Dorman Parking Brake Cable Equalizer 21121

May look "Ok" to you after heating but cable(s), equalizer or connector can fail w/o warning under load and car moves.
When this happens, you hope doesn't hit anything or anyone.

So If you heat the small connector... likely you need front and R-side and the connector
