Making an 86 fascia trim look like an 87? (Page 1/2)
DRMercer MAR 27, 10:00 PM
Hello Fiero ...
I am counting on 'someone' having already done what I am about to suggest. Here we go: So there I am with an '87 GT an a '86 front fascia ("bumper"). I had this done at a body shop years ago to speed up the repair process. Now I want to replace the side-trim molding of the '86 (just on the front .. around the side marker lights) with '88 molding. And to my surprise the '86 molding (at least one of three pieces of that area are MOLDED INTO THE front fascia.
Question: has anyone made it work to replace the '86 molding with the '88 molding in this circumstance.
Please advise ...
Thanks

The smooth trim around the front of the 88 coupe nose is molded in, just like the 86 bumper pad nose.

Perhaps the trim on the 86 nose could be filled and shaped with a semi-flexble body repair material?

Joe, it wasn't just your response regarding an '87 coupe that was confusing (at least to me), it was the opening post as well. There were references to an '87 GT and an '86 front fascia in the opening post, as well as to '88 molding. I just wanted to bring this to the OP's attention in a humorous fashion with the Cool Hand Luke quote.

It's all good Patrick.
The original post was a bit confusing, but my response would be too, especially to someone who may not be familiar with all of the front fascia styles.

A) The molding on 86-88 GTs was the rounded style......Right?

B) If not, there is a Fiero owner in Livermore who was 3D printing some pieces to add to the grooved trim to make it rounded....

C) "Cool Hand Luke" is one the best movies ever- I own the DVD of it.

cvxjet, yes, all of the fastback GT's used the rounded moldings, as did the 87-88 coupes.

All the other Fieros had ribbed moldings.

The O/P used an 86 bumper pad front fascia on a fastback GT and now wants the ribbed molding on the bumper pad fascia to match the rounded molding on the rest of the car.

And 'Cool Hand Luke' is a great movie!

I honestly don't think he would recommend it after all was said and done
