Modified 1986 2.5 Fiero Engine - How much horsepower can it make without exotic parts?

Let's Dyno Test Dave Storlien's project and find out!

Impressive power figures from the little Duke 4 banger. He had it up to 172 HP at the crank and 220 ft lbs of torque but this was an expensive build with a performance cam, Ford Pistons, custom headers, and a Marine Crankshaft. It wasn't mentioned but he may have used SBC rods. The question becomes does the power justify the cost?

Likely not - unless you are set on having one of the few Dukes running around that has some grunt!

So... I wonder what the "fuse" would be. With all the upgraded internals, the weak link might very well be the block, itself.
It would be interesting to see what a port job would do for it. (Unless I missed it, it wasn't mentioned whether that had already been done.)

Heads are ported and larger intake valves installed.

Interesting. A drastic difference.
I'm curious where you got that info. I didn't see it in the video. (Not disputing it. Just curious.)

I'm wondering how a "775" iron SD head might compare. It's not too exotic. Ports are in the stock location, etc. (I owned an SD with that head. "Butt dyno" said ~200 HP with a streetable cam, but it would also do 6K without strangling. Also with a Holley 500.)

That is pretty sweet!

I got the info from Dave - I just pinned it in the comments to the video today.
