Transmission rods arent correct (Page 1/1)

I am following this forum post;
https://www.fiero.nl/forum/Forum9/HTML/000008.html

In which it states, "The rod furthest to the left
(assuming the transmission is right-side
up) needs to be recessed about 1/4" below
the surface of the detent plate. The other 3
rods should be flush with the surface of the
detent plate."

But mine arent like that, and I cant seem to find out how to make it like that:

As you can see, the "left most" rod is 1/4 of an inch down like they said, but the one on the bottom is not level with the plate. What am I doing wrong?

I don't know if this will help, but here it is.

After putting on and taking off the top part of the case several times, I have found the problem.

The blue part is what is being interfered with, you need to make sure the rod goes into the slot on the other side of the case circled in green in the next picture. It gets stuck when I did this so you have to softly tap on the red part to reset it, and then push both of the rods up with the shifter mechanism.

I guess I just assumed it would go in by itself, but I actually had to put a little more force then I expected for it to go in.

Does anybody have any tips on how to get the detent assembly installed? I can get all the balls in, but it doesnt seem to want to go down all the way and seemingly binds up half way.
