Getrag 5 Speed Transmission Issue (Page 1/1) nero APR 05, 06:37 PM Hello, after close to 3 years off the road I was hoping this year I would finally get my 87 gt on the road. Just finishing up a few last things. One of which included just a cleaning of the shifter in the console and a bit of lube. I then shifted trough the gears a few times (no battery in yet still up on stands) to work in the lube. First few tomes it shifted fine but then i Could no longer get it into first, second, fifth or reverse. It only went in third and fourth. So i thought the select cable was bound up. So i disconnected the select cable at the transmission and tried to shift through the gears using the select lever. Without applying pressure to the select lever it goes into 3rd and 4th as expected. If i press down on the select lever to select 5th or reverse the select lever barely moves so cant get it into 5th or reverse. If i pull up on the select lever there is decent movement but does not seem like enough as i cant get it into first or second. Any ideas as to the issue or what else to check? It seemed fine 3 years ago when i last drove it. What could go wrong from sitting in a garage for 3 years,lol. Only thing i did was change the fluid to syncromesh nero APR 06, 08:21 PM Well after all that I hooked the cables back up at the transmission, got in the car and wiggled the shifter around and everything was good again.
