AC O-ring Confusion (Page 1/1)

Hi all

So I have had a leak at my dryer/accumulator to evaporator. I pulled it apart and found that my O-ring was pinched and there was some plastic or another O-ring inside the hole. I cleaned out out and put it together vacuumed it down it held vac for 4 days no problem even took it for a drive. Today I noticed my ac was not blowing super cold again and looked and i have oil coming from the dryer/accumulator to evaporator joint still. So here is the kicker when I upgraded my AC system and replaced the O-rings I did it like for like. I also had taken apart a couple other cars around the same time and observed this same thing.

On the dryer/accumulator to evaporator side they had the thinner O-ring at the Red arrow and on the accumulator to under the car it had the thicker O-ring .

Says the two O-rings should be the same. However the evaporator line does not have the captured indentation unlike the other side... So I'm a little confused.

Ugh i need to get my eyes checked I see they are different 1 captured and 1 standard.... So any thoughts why it may be leaking?

if one was the wrong type, that would obviously cause it not to seal. Also assuming you have an 84 since that's the 84 chart, 85+ were different.

If you used the correct ones, did you lube with mineral oil? May have simply gotten pinched. The fittings don't need to be tightened that much as long as they're fully seated, check the threads for burrs or distortion, they're soft aluminum.

Also recommend against buying the large assortments, there are so many random sizes that are difficult to tell apart from each other. If you replace the leaking one with one of the exact part numbers from the table, that rules out the wrong size/diameter being used.

lol I copied the wrong chart into my post i meant to post this one as i have an 87. This is where I got my they should both be the same idea from... and they are not the same... the black ones I pulled off of the 85+ cars on that side were all really thin though. Ill just order some of the right PN and if they are different try again.

Got the O-ring from the PN today (Bottom) and compared it to what was installed (Top) they are ever so slightly different.

:Fingers crossed:
