Aftermarket axles (Page 1/1)
cam-a-lot APR 19, 08:18 AM
Hello

one of my axles snapped at the joint during some spirited driving... Fortunately I had a spare OEM set

I would like to have a spare set in case this happens again. Can anyone suggest if I should look for OEM (But 30+ year old) set , or if any of the aftermarket options are similar or better quality ?

thanks

From what we have seen new axle quality is all over the place. The Chinese product may be very good or it may be very bad. I don't believe that you can get USA or Canadian made quality new product anymore. I've had good luck with Cardone rebuilt OEM axles.

Is/Was a custom axle builder often use here.
Use search.

Likely they can make a HD axle better then OE units.

By all means be sure to say hello at Carlisle. Look for a guy with a 6' tall wife. Hard to miss. No beers served at Carlisle but always happy to chat. My advise may not always be on the mark . I just try to share many years of experience of working on cars with others. Glad to hear that the Canadian contingent will be returning to Carlisle. We really missed you guys the past two.

Hey Cam-a-lot,

I will see what I did with my rear axles when we took my cradle and stuff out. IF I still have them, I will bring them to Carlisle. I'll let you know!

Oh wait... they would be axles for a manual. Is that what you need?

Rockauto / aftermarket can be unpredictable.

Here are two axles with supposedly the same part number:

Axle shaft diameters are different...

CV joints are different...

Only thing the same are the splines at each end.

I got Duralast Gold axles from Autozone back in 2016 to run in my SD4 conversion. They have been fine since then. Only a few 1000 miles on them, but with more power than a stock car would ever see.
