So in order to update the A/C, what exactly do I need to upgrade to a current A/C system? I currently have an '88 with OEM A/C. I found this on fierostore.com. Is that really all that is needed?

Unlikely...

System that leak down have problems and just "recharge" w/ R134a won't help that for even a day in many cases.
AC sealers often cause more problems or even make AC to self-destruct.

Plus Some old OE GM and other Compressors do not like R134a or oil they use.

Before you ask, Many Shops do not touch 10 - 20+ year old Car AC. They often don't have R12 tools to purge the system and/or don't need the headaches to rebuild them just to have something else leak/fail next few day to weeks.

some data when was easier 20+ years ago for Fiero...

Take it to an A/C pro if you have no experience.
It may cost a lot, but mistakes can cost more.

Budget $1000 in parts and tools to do it yourself, definitely a 6/10 difficulty. You might be able to find a shop willing to do the work in the southwest for $2k+, but most won't even touch them. LOTS of threads here in the archives on how to do it.

At minimum, new o-rings, orifice tube, accumulator, high and low side adapter fittings, new or re-calibrated clutch cycling switch (V6) or R-134A valve (4 cylinder), evacuate system and check for leaks, add 8oz oil, 2lbs R-134A
