Map Lights stopped working today... (Page 1/1)
WaterInYuhDish APR 23, 10:07 PM
I looked up posts but none of them seemed quite the same as my issue so I wasn't sure if this is a unique case.

Just replaced the overhead bulbs in map and dome. One of the map lights worked and then I realized the other map and one of the dome lights weren't working.
I flipped the dome bulb which fixed that issue.
I flipped the map bulb which didn't fix the issue; so i plugged that bulb into a dome slot and it worked. So I know the bulbs are good.

Now neither of my map lights work but both the domes work.
I'm wondering if i somehow broke the switches for the maps or ruined a ground somehow?
I saw the ground is in the roof by one of the screws, so everything is put back together but maybe I muddied it up.

SOLVED: After taking everything out one last time and wiggling anything I thought might have been bothered; everything works as it should. I can't know for certain but my guess is the main connector or the mounts for the map bulbs somehow was the culprit. I guess you could call this the equivalent of, "if it doesn't work, hit it" but less violent haha.

Are you using regular bulbs or LED's?

I've run into quite a few of the LED's that don't like to play with the older cars. Sometimes you can get away with just turning them around as you did but I've had to buy a totally different LED bulb that is for the same application to get them to work correctly.

I put the original bulbs back in the maps and it still didn't work. So that's the weird part. I'll mess around with them more tomorrow.

All get power thru 1 orange wire. So if any light turn on isn't a power problem...

Dome ground thru the door switch
Map ground thru the switchs near lens and 1 screw holding them up.

If you have 3 light switches 1 is switch the dome on w/ doors closed using same "wiring" as Map lights.

The switches gets crap on them etc or have loose mounting screw(s) and light(s) won't work.

LEDs aren't going to be a problem when they're controlled by a simple switch (I have LED map lights),. Something was disturbed/disconnected during your work on them.

This must be the case. I went back yesterday and just wiggled everything I could think may have been bothered and now everything works! Only issue now is finding red LEDs that are bright enough to actually be helpful with seeing anything should the need arise.

I may throw white LEDs in the maps to compensate. Thanks for the input, yall!
