installing oil pan gasket (Page 1/1)

Why do the end cap gaskets have nipples on them? There aren't any holes in the block. Which go on first, sides or ends? Thanks in advance.I put the engine on stand and thought I did everything right. Shortly after firing engine pan started leaking? Rear gasket moved some how. Any good suggestions, don't want to do this again.

what engine?
4cyl often doesn't use front section of pan where hits timing cover. Only RTV and wait Days to "dry" before run the engine.
Timing cover often doesn't use gasket to block either.
how much RTV depend where... you use enough to seal w/o making buggers that can cause problems inside of engine.

RTV needs very clean surfaces to seal. Brake Clean etc as final clean to remove All oil etc.
