Brake lights on one side won't go out (Page 1/1)

On my '88. Got home and realized my brake lights, except for the 3rd light were constantly on.

Fiddled with the brake light switch, even unplugged it with no change. The 3rd light comes on when I push the brake.
Removed and cleaned all bulbs.
Checked ground, 0 ohms at all sockets.
Swapped with new bulbs, no change.

Tried my hazards and they don't work either. Maybe related? I can't remember the last time I checked them.

At some point the right side stopped being on all the time but I had the bulbs out so much I'm not sure when it happened.

Any ideas?

What has been done to the wiring recently?

What model is it, the GTs are wired differently.

If is Not a GT...
Likely Turn Switch is On and not blinking.

Socket ground have 0Ω to frame but may not be touching the base of bulb. Check rear and front bulbs.
See my Cave, Sneak Path

socket ground gets bend and have problems.
Carefully bend back but too much then bulbs won't fit the hole.

See my Cave, Lighbulbs for one type socket to fix.

It's a formula and I haven't touched the wiring at all.

I would look at the Turn/Hazard switch assembly.

Here is the diagram.

The high level brake light is on its own circuit through the brake switch.
The brake lights on the rear of the car are routed through the Turn/Hazard switch in the steering column.

Thanks for the replies! It's definitely the turn switch. Moving it around caused them to flicker and switch back and forth to staying on.

If I get it in the right place they both go off.

I'm guessing the best thing is to jut replace it.
