84 with auto trans, 88k miles. Car's check engine light comes on at about 40mph and goes off again when you decelerate. The code was for the TPS failing or failed. Car had sudden jerking movements, slowing down then revving back up.(I think that was because we were about to run out of gas) What does your fiero do when its about to run out of gas? Are these symptoms of a failing or failed TPS?

Check engine light still did the thing, the car didn't lurch and buck anymore. I just brought it up because I read that a failed TPS could make the car buck.

The TPS is probably one of the easiest sensors to test (with a multimeter). Running a search here on how to check a TPS will show that all you're looking for (with a faulty unit) is a lack of continuity when the throttle is at any particular position. (The dead spot will usually be just off the throttle stop.)
