Rear End pulling to PS under acceleration (Page 1/1)
Inferno MAY 20, 11:52 PM
88 GT w/3.4DOHC, under hard acceleration 1st to 3rd the car is pulling in the rear to the passenger side.
It's very noticeable to me and those following behind.

It has the poly subframe bushing and poly rear control arm bushings.

Not completely used to the mid engine set up still.

Thoughts?

I must be misunderstanding you. Are you referring to the cradle bushings... on an '88?

Check the long bolt through the bottom of the knuckle.

There are no cradle bushings on an 88.

jacked the car up and did some push pull to the rear passengers side wheel and there is for sure some play going on in here.
the bushings appear to be poly.
from what I can tell it appears to be from the lateral control arm.

Are there any solid bushings/spherical etc, other than poly and rubber available?

It has been 10+ years, so the part #s might have changed, but this will get you started:

Thanks.
I was thinking of making something just like this yesterday.
As well I was thinking someone must make the replacement bushing in a solid form, but all I keep finding online are stock rubber and poly.
Rodney dickman does sell a simple brace that he says solves the gap issues.

Yeah... Tighten the snot out of the long bolt. Also check out Rodney Dickman's brace for the rear knuckles.
I have seen this in several of my cars. (88s)

Get rid of the poly! After a few years it gets mis shaped and introduces play. Had the same thing happen to mine after only 2 years of use. Replaced with rubber and back to normal.

I also have a 1988 GT with a 3.4DOHC 5-speed trans. After it was done I noticed the same pull to one side under acceleration and a pull to the opposite side when I let off the gas. I had reinstalled the stock fluid filled motor mount on the passenger side and it came apart under the additional weight and torque of the new engine.

I once purchased a Fiero that swayed all over the road. Probably not your issue but a good alignment is critical on these cars.
