Did I puke the Alternator, I think I did.. (Page 1/2)

So an Idiot light flashed for a second, didn't know which one so I scanned the gauges, noticed the voltage was a bit high, almost in the red, every time I hit the brakes the check engine light would come on for just a second.

Looks like the regulator failed, am I correct ? I never had one go on me before. I was expecting it thou after 29 years in storage. Good thing I was almost home, turned on the lights to bring the voltage down.

I read some threads about a replacement but it gets confusing when I look at parts stores, CS this and CS body etc.. I know the newer type is better but not sure what I would be buying because of the way its listed.

Can anyone please recommend an alternator ? not looking for an upgrade, stock amperage is fine..

TIA

No one is going to remember what your (or my) Fiero is. You need to supply some basic info.

Ok found an CS 130 alternator (new). So all I need is the adapter from Rodney, correct?

I would ask if you guys agree with my assessment?

You just need a new side plug to install CS130 in12SI or other SI types
See my Cave, Rabid-Wombat's CS-130 Conversion for 85-87 V6.

Buy from AZ or other real parts stores. Not from Ebay, Amazon, etc.

It's for a 2.8 and not a 2.5, right?

I'd also recommended the following, since you're already going to be in there. It's the best money you could spend on a 2.8 powered Fiero. Seriously.

Fiero Belt Tensioner

Thank you guys, very good helpful info. Going to give this a go..

Someone suggested I replace the output wire with one heaver since I'm going from 85/95 amps to 105, I will only have the stock load on it so is it really necessary ? I Don't what gauge wire it has now.

If wiring is good and stock loads then no need to upgrade that.

If adding big sound etc. then just add more wiring for them.
Like adding heavier wiring and relays for hotter HL bulbs in my Cave, Headlights

Thanks Ogre, So does the heat shield need to be installed on the new AC 130 alternator ? Can it be..?

You'll need to track one down from an '88 Fiero or fabricate something similar. Info Here and Here.
