Confused with 3800SC Headers (Page 1/1)

Hey all!

I'll try to make this quick... searched other posts but can't seem to find what I'm looking for, so I'm asking directly:

Does anyone know of a set of Headers for a 3800 SC that follow the same route as the stock Headers did on the original 2.8 V6?

Meaning, a header from the trunk side (rear) that travels over the transmission to join with the firewall side (front) and then swoops around under the cradle (like the original)? I'd like to be able to fit a Catalytic Convertor in it and a good muffler.

From other posts I've seen, others have just taken a 90 degree bend off the original trunk side header, put in a catalytic, then 180 degree it down to a Magnaflow or Spintech dual outlet mufller to the tips.

My exhaust guys says it won't work as there's not enough room to fit both the Cat and the Muffler in that space... I even showed him pictures... besides, I'd be worried that the heat from both the Cat and Muffler would melt the trunk Carpet.

Cutting the trunk is not an option for me. Want to keep it has original as possible.

I saw a YouTube video awhile ago where someone used a set of Pacesetter headers to do exactly what I'm hoping to do, but he didn't have a part# as he got them used.

I do have a 4sp tranny so there is that clearance issue (actually my crossover pipe from the front to back currently has been 'modified' to fit) but I'm planning on a 5sp swap next winter.

Thoughts?

Thanks in advance, Cheers!

The 3800SC manifolds are somewhat non-restrictive. The front manifold doesn't flow as well. It can be replaced with the direct fit ZZ Performance Powerlog that flows far better. ZZ also offers 3800 headers but they are expensive and will not fit the Fiero without cutting the trunk.

West Coast Fiero offers this type of swap header for the 3800 platform(s).

I was an owner of these same headers from them for a few years when I was still running a supercharger, I did have a few 'pin hole' welds when I received them, and had to weld those. They're now installed on another Fiero owners 3800 with more than 20k miles total on them and he seems happy. I'd recommend having them ceramic coated.

It's buyer beware with W.C.F. they can be very slow, but they did come through for *most* of my orders in a timely fashion without issues over the years. I also sent them a flywheel and they machined it properly and shipped it back for a very reasonable price.

A friend of mine ordered the WCF stainless headers. They fit fine, the quality was good but delivery took a number of months. There is no info available that these headers will provide additional horsepower so IMO its a big $$$$ risk. . On my many orders from WCF they have shipped promptly and the parts worked fine except for one. . The only issue that I had was a right front motor mount for my 4.9L . It fits the automatic trans applications but needs modification to clear the passenger side axle.

For those that like to modify things fit w/o going full custom, the Ford 3.8 manifolds had the same port spacing, but a couple of the flanges needed to be reclocked and the holes slotted.

Here is one from a Ford that is very similar to the 2.8 fiero rear manifold. just some modification and it would be a great place to start the routing to the Y pipe.

I have heard that using modified Mustang 3.8L headers will work but to modify them you will need a spare 3800 series 2 head (or an engine on a stand) to use as a jig to insure that the flanges are welded in place in the right position. Probably a good way to save money but a bit of work.

Hello, I haven’t been on this site much in past few years. I have a set of S.S. 1-5/8” headers from West Coast Fiero’s. I ordered them with the intention of doing a top swap on a 3800 N/A. I was happy with the fit and finish of the headers I ordered from WCF. They did miss the welds on one V band on one of the banks they were tacked but not finished, small oversight, when I took them to get ceramic coated the guy complimented the work but pointed it out and made the correction. No biggie ! Because I changed direction and bought Steve Vincent’s turbo set up, intake headers etc. mild steel and 1-1/2”. I have a nib set of ZZP aluminum heads with 1-5/8” exhaust ports. I need to fabricate an turbo x-over to mate with my WCF headers. Lastly I noticed ZZP has a x-over / Downpipe to work with stock 3800 exhaust manifolds that may clear the trunk on the Fiero. Eventually I’ll post Steve’s old headers and downpipe in the mall but I need it for now.
