88 oil pressure sender in a 87 duke (Page 1/1)

Hi all Fiero friends.

A short question: will the 1988 oil pressure sender work properly if I install it on a 1987 Duke?
I have read many threads/messages (even reading OgreĀ“s Cave web) about this but all I can understand is that it is "only" an upgrade for the V6.

Thanks in advance for your help and tips.

Cave page is for all Fiero except 84 that doesn't have an OP gauge.
See my Cave, Oil Sensor

TSB note there only affect V6 because of plumbing issues.

If i remember the threads are different from 87 to 88 because i was worried and tried to install my 87 sensor in my 88 engine for my 87 car but once splicing the plug it works with the 88 sensor

No.
Threads are same 1/8" or 1/4" NPT. Don't have one right now to check. Most other senders/sensors are 1/2" NPT. They are Not Metric Threads.

Only Body is different shape and often need different wrench.
Plus need new plug to use 88 in early years.

For V6 etc may need plumbing to address TSB or whatever, standard NPT fitting and pipe from any US and many other stores will have parts to make stuff to fit. Example: Many have added T etc to keep OEM sender/sensor to add aftermarket gauges.

Related: Others w/ old style ECT have to change plugs too because you can't get the old Sensor to replace a dead unit.
87 Duke already have the new ECT w/ Metripack plug.
