ecm functions (Page 1/1)

Hey folks, 85 gt 4speed, does the ecm monitor oil pressure? Oil pressure gauge is vibrating, doesn't fluctuate? Thanks

No.

Gauge, sender or other things can make problems.
Get a real gauge to temp replace the sender to see real oil pressure in the engine then try to fix the gauge problem(s).

Good Idea, Thanks

On a 35 year old Fiero it is common that the oil pressure sender and the gauge could be inaccurate. I would replace the gauge and sensor with known good ones (to keep the stock look) and as suggested use a quality aftermarket gauge to verify the reading. You should not expect exact OEM oil pressures on an old worn high mileage engine.

Forum member JGunsett repairs and calibrates Fiero gages and is very reasonable.

Age and mileage don't necessarily mean low oil pressure.

Maintenance and frequency dictate engine wear.

My 275k Blazer runs and carries oil pressure like it is new.
My 86 SE showed no engine wear at 165k.

Both were well maintained.

New Tach Board won't solve OP Gauge problems.
New/"recert" gauge often won't solve this either. Plus is GT often means Gauge Pod/Cluster over Heat/AC etc. where OP gauge is.

Because OP Fuel and Temp gauge work same way and often "lie" for iffy ground(s) or power or wiring on top of "bad" sender or gauge.

Is Why your first step is use a real mech gauge to read OP at engine.

Next is use resistor(s) to emulate the sender. 0Ω = "0," 45Ω "Half scale" and 90Ω "Full Scale" for OP and Fuel. If use fix resistor just get close to that Ω. Can test at engine end then at back of dash or gauge pod w/o pulling a lot of stuff apart. RD has a resistor "tool" for people don't want to find resistors. See my Cave, Oil Sensor for what wire at sender to ground via the resistor.

Great information as usual! Thanks Guru"s!
