Dash Instrument Pod (Page 1/1)

86 SE 3800sc | The copper contacts on the rear of my instrument cluster are starting to separate from the vinyl. A few years ago I purchased some used vinyl replacements and yesterday I dismantled the pod assembly to replace it. What's the trick in getting the vinyl layer off of the back of the pod? I don't want to bend the tabs up to release the vinyl for obvious reasons. I pryed a little to pop the metal hold-down out but that seems risky. So what's the trick?
I know GM engineers. They're notorious for overlapping 1 component over the other and before long you have half the car dismantled just to get (1) small piece out.

See pic.
