Newer brake technology in upgrading our brake system. (Page 1/1)

I am thinking about upgrading the brake system on my 86 Fiero. Hydro boosts is what I am about to research. Since I am doing the 3800sc swap wouldn’t this work as well as the some of the things brake upgrades that are being done or have been done in the past? I am putting the question out to some of the bigger brains in the community that have been in the game for a while. I will treat all responses respectfully but really want to here from the Ogre and others.

If you upgrade the entire braking system with compatible components you can improve braking but you must be cautious. If you have an accident and your insurance company finds that your braking system has been modified from OEM specs they will not honor any claims. In other words you will have no insurance. If yopu just want improved braking response just change to the S-10 brake booster. It looks stock and it does give better pedal assist.

The Ogre only suggests keeping everything working properly in stock condition. http://fierocave.shorturl.com/

On my Indy, I wanted to keep things pretty stock with new calipers and new braided SS brake hoses.
The only gain you can make here is with pads that are better than stock offerings.

I used Porterfield R4-S pads all around and have been VERY impressed with their performance.
I've never had a "running out of brake" feeling with these.

On my 87 GT I did the 11.25" Lebaron rotors upgrade and am very happy with it.
Not sure if anyone is selling "ready to go" hubs and brackets for this these days.

Hydro Boost isn't new. Cady and others had them at least to the '80s.
Nearly all Runs off the PS Pump. Some had hidden accumulator to have live booster when engine died on highway. Many don't have this because they are a heavy part and $ to make plus $ to install.
Vacuum Booster has this feature builtin and can easy push pedal 1-4 times depending on several factors.

Most engine swap in Fiero don't have room for the PS pump and related plumbing. Not much point having only for brake booster.

"rubber" brake lines vs stainless steel http://www.fiero.nl/forum/Forum2/HTML/129208.html

Car I-co can Void the policy for "Brake Upgrades" and more when investigates and/or gets sued for a wreck. Most policies are written based on VIN that listed Engine in the car and don't tell them it's a engine swap car, they can Void the policy and could forward to DA etc for Insurance Fraud,
If hurt or kill people w/ iffy "Brake Upgrades" etc could have more criminal charges.

With a mild 3800sc build you should have adequate engine vacuum without a hydro boost setup.

Larger diameter vented rotors will give better braking performance and less heat fade.
